For this free choice blog I’ll be writing about another NBA
article. I’ll be talking about Kobe Bryant and his recent comeback to the
league after a devastating injury he suffered last season. Kobe Brant tore his Achilles
last season and was out for the rest of the season including the playoffs. Man
people wondered if he would be able to make a complete comeback from this
injury because there has really only been one player to ever do it, that being
Dominique Wilkins. Though Kobe has only played two games since his very recent
return he’s already shown that he’s still a scoring threat in his second game
when he scored 20 points. He didn’t play very well offensively on his first game
back however only making 2 of the 9 shots he took that night, Kobe made up for
this though by getting rebounds and getting his teammates involved in the
offense. Some people still question whether or not he’ll be able to be back at
100% but I think given enough time Kobe can be just as efficient as he was
before the injury, regardless of how much he’s aged or how old he is at the
time. Some people haven’t realized that Kobe Bryant was actually able to come
back from his injury ahead of schedule and he’s still been able to help his
team efficiently. Within time I feel Kobe will have recovered completely. My
personal reaction to reading this article was very negative because the author
said that he felt Kobe wouldn’t be able to be the old Kobe again. I believe the
author’s intent was to inform people about Kobe Bryant’s current situation and
give his predictions on how the situation will play out.

Free Choice Blog 4.08
For this free choice blog I’m writing about a rookie in the NBA who has the potential to be a superstar. His name is Michael Carter Williams. Aside from his consistency as of late he had one of the best debuts in NBA history. Carter Williams played his first game against the heat and managed to lead his unfortunately terrible team to victory against the defending champs almost scoring a quadruple double (4 stats in double figures, points, assists, steals etc.) something that has never been done before in the NBA. He also managed to lead his team to another victory against the Chicago Bulls. He managed to score 26 points and dish out 10 assists, which are superstar quality numbers. He’s already been chosen as the favorite to win rookie of the year, and quite frankly there aren’t many who could “dethrone” him as the favorite to win. Fortunately for Carter Williams this draft was expected to be a bust, so he most likely won’t have much competition to win the award. However Carter Williams wasn’t expected to be as good as he is, going 11th in the draft to the Philadelphia 76ers everybody thought he would be just another average starter, But his debut proved to everybody that he’s deserving of some attention. His consistency so far however is what’s kept him in the spotlight. It seems as if he enjoys playing great teams because he always plays extremely well against them. Personally I’m happy this article was written because this way more people will know about a player with great potential to be amazing. I think the author wrote this article to publicize Carter Williams more because rookies don’t normally get recognized too often even rookies that are playing like other superstars.

Dwyane Wade
For this blog, I read an article about the Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade. The article talks about Dwyane Wade's deteriorating health and whether or not he'll be able to come back to his old self. The article talks about Dwyane when he was in his prime, and it mentions how explosive he was before time had started to get the best of him. He was putting up spectacular numbers, now however many argue that it's his time to pass the torch including a fellow superstar Kevin Durant. Durant says Dwyane should pass the torch on to the younger, newer generation of up coming stars. Wade however still feels he has more to prove, and the means to do it. Wade can also back it up by mentioning his recent playoff finals performances which were critical in winning his 3rd championship with fellow teamates Lebron James, and Chris Bosh. In first series of the playoffs the Heat played the Milwaukee Bucks, this was the series where Dwyane injured his knee which is arguably what started this controversy. Dwyane struggled throughout the playoffs after his injury as he attempted to play through it but he was still able to come up when it mattered most starting in the NBA finals in game 4 when he managed to score 32 points to keep the team in the lead for the win. He also came up big in game 7 scoring around 23 points to help Miami win the championship. Although he did injure his other knee during the NBA finals which raised even more questions about the superstar. My personal reaction to this article was worried, but confident that Dwyane Wade would be able to prove doubters wrong and show that he's still an elite player in the NBA. I believe the authors intent was to inform readers about the state Dwyane Wade is currently in, and the controversy surrounding the situation. I noticed a lot of chronological organization in this article everything seemed to be dated and in the correct chronological order.

For this blog I read an article about the NBA player Derrick Rose, and his return to the NBA after he tore his ACL last season. The article talked about Rose still being as athletic and explosive as he was before the injury, and it even mentioned the fact that his vertical has improved by 5 inches. Rose was able to score 13 points in 20 minutes in his first game back against the pacers. The article mentioned how many Bulls fans were ecstatic to finally have the 2011 MVP back to his old self. Many fans however were very stressful during the game because they didn't know if he was back at 100% and they cringed every time he made a physical play not knowing if he would get injured again and make them wait another period of time for his return. The article also speculated on how far the bulls would go in the post-season wondering if they would be able to top the favorites, the Miami Heat, or be defeated once again. Many of the analysts who's opinions were given in the article said that they would not be able to top the Heat unless Rose is really back at 100%, and even then they said that it wasn't a sure thing, but only a small possibility. Personally, I'm happy that Derrick Rose is healthy again, and is able to continue on with his career, but I'm worried because of the competition he brings to the Heat. The Bulls have a chance of defeating them this year and that depends solely on how Derrick Rose plays this season, and this post-season. If I was to take notes to help me remember important points throughout my reading I would use a list because it's simple, neat, and it's easy to keep organized.

My results on the "What kind of reader are you?" quiz were Sports as my favorite genre, and Comedy as my second favorite. I think that's pretty accurate considering I love keeping up with my teams, and I love to laugh. The last thing I read that I enjoyed was an article talking about a Milan soccer player named Kevin-Prince Boateng being sold to another team. I enjoyed reading this article because I was able to keep up with my team even though I have preferred they kept the player. This article was enjoyable for me mainly because I'm a fan of the Milan team.
